How to use this shoulders exercise category.
Use this page to narrow down the options that actually fit the way you train, not just to collect more exercises than you can realistically use.
Shoulder training works best when it is simple enough to recover from and specific enough to be felt in the right place. A lot of people turn shoulder work into a collection of random raises and presses that all blur together. The better approach is to choose one main overhead or shoulder press pattern, then add a small number of lateral or rear-delt focused movements that fill in what the press does not cover well on its own.
This category is more useful when it stays focused on true shoulder-dominant exercises. That means presses, lateral raise patterns, rear-delt work, and other movements that actually target the delts as the main area of work. It is less useful when upper-back pulling or general arm work gets mixed in just because the shoulders assist. Clearer category boundaries make the page easier to trust and the related links more useful.
Use this page to build cleaner upper-body accessory work around your main presses, chest training, and back training. If you are trying to bring up shoulder size, look for exercises you can control and standardize instead of chasing constant novelty. If your goal is general fitness, simpler shoulder presses and raises are usually enough. The point is to leave with shoulder movements you can repeat, recover from, and log accurately in the rest of your program.

View workoutCommon questions about shoulders exercises.
These quick answers should make it easier to choose a smaller, more useful exercise shortlist.
What shoulder exercises are most useful for beginners?
Most beginners do well with one simple shoulder press and one lateral raise pattern they can control. That is usually enough to learn the category without overcomplicating it.
Do I need front raises if I already press a lot?
Not always. Many people get plenty of front-delt work from pressing, so lateral and rear-delt work often adds more value.
Why are upright rows or rear-delt rows handled carefully on shoulder pages?
They can still be relevant, but they should only stay in the shoulder category when the movement is clearly shoulder-dominant rather than acting like a general back row.
How much shoulder work should I do each week?
That depends on the rest of your upper-body training, but a lot of people do well with a few focused shoulder movements spread across the week instead of cramming everything into one day.
